Evaluation
The purpose of my magazine was to entertain, inform and provide news and gossip within the school community for the sixth formers. This should appeal to sixth formers as it is informal and creates a friendly, up-to-date tone of voice.
My Magazine follows the conventions of normal magazines. For example I have a picture of a student from sixth form (aiming at target audience) in a medium close up shot, which is like most other magazines. Also on the front cover I have edited the picture so that it appeals to the eye by creating the background in colour and the person in black and white. This makes it eye catching. Furthermore the front cover follows another convention by varying size of text with the important notices in bold and big writing so that it stands out to the audience.
The contents page follows conventions as it is similar to the front page as I have used the same front and colour text and also used brick wall images to link the two together.
My main cover picture is of a sixth form student so it appeals to the right target audience. It has a simple brick wall back ground which relates to the idea of schools. It also cuts out distractions and makes the person in the foreground more of the main focus. The girl in the foreground is holding books which also symbolises school and indicates that it is a school magazine. The facial expression of the girl is happy and looks like she is laughing at someone or with her friends creating a positive impression of the magazine. In the contents page I used images of a sixth former, the head teacher and a key stage 3 student. This created a variety of images connoting that there is a variety of topics within the magazine. The main image on the front is looking away from the camera to connote the casualness and informality of the sixth form.
My main title of the magazine was in a graffiti/urban font on the wall this shows that it is aimed at the sixth formers rather than teachers or parents. The rest of the texts was in a comic type font to show the informality of the magazine and create a fun and happy tone. The informal register created a friendly tone of voice in the magazine which appeals to the sixth formers as it is written from one sixth former to another and almost like a conversational tone. I used buzz words such as ‘exclusive’ to make the reader feel like they are going to hear something they have never heard before. I used many anchorage text in the contents page, for example I wrote about an exclusive interview with Mr Essex and had a series of pictures running down the left hand side and one of them was a picture of Mr Essex.
The general colour scheme of the magazine was purple and black to connote the science college of the school. Also it complimented well with the bright red brick wall background.
